Alward Creek Farms Potato Seed

Seed potatoes are available in small quantities from 1 to 200 lbs. Our seed is mostly single-drop and 1 lb typically contains about 5 or 6 tubers. Each seed tuber should produce about 12 tubers each about 1/3 lb. We grow our potatoes on muck soil (high organic matter) and on sand.

Our online store is stocked with a variety of potato seed by the pound. Take a look around and purchase online and we can ship it quickly directly to you, or you can even pick it up at our location.

Shipping
Orders placed and paid now will be shipped at a later date. We can store your seed until early April but please specify when you need a ship date at least three weeks before you are able to plant. Seed does best planted into light sandy soil that is about 55-60°F. Depending on the variety most crops will mature within 90-110 days after planting.

Preparation for planting and growing:

  • Keep the seed potatoes in a cool (40°F) and humid environment prior to planting.
  • About two weeks before planting, gradually increase the temperature to a maximum of 60°F and expose them to light for about 12 hours per day.
  • This will produce strong and stubby sprouts that emerge quickly and are less susceptible to soil disease.
  • Plant the seed at about 4” depth to encourage fast emergence then recover with soil for an effective seed depth of about 6-8”.
  • Vary the planting distance between seed to produce large or small tubers.
  • 6” spacing will produce many small tubers ideal for salads.
  • 12” spacing will produce larger tubers.
  • Potatoes require frequent watering but be careful not to under or over water – the soil should feel wet but not saturated.
  • Potatoes thrive if you can use fertilizer (recommended use rates as on package labels).
